The Calgary Stampede Parade is always held on the first Friday after the July 1st long weekend. 31st Youth and Parents are asked to take a large responsibility of at least one part of this very important event. That is the seat set-up, help usher cowpokes to their seat, or to help with the seat take down; anyone participating in this event on parade day is welcome to stay and enjoy the parade. The Seats are located on the South East side of 9th Avenue at 6th Street South West.

This is an excellent fundraising opportunity for the 31st. Over the years the organizers have gained much experience in the successful operation of this fundraising opportunity. And since it never rains on a parade, it's always a very enjoyable experience. The event involves volunteer help from all Scout members and their families. Organization starts in early spring with the ticket sales management of over 600 seats; also preparations and ordering of parts, materials and equipment takes place. On the night before the big event - parade seats are set up, moms make sandwiches, mark seats and help distribute parts, and Scouts, Cubs and Dads assemble the seats. On the day of the parade, operations and ushering duties commence, of course, we all must enjoy the festivities. After the parade is over, the post-parade seat take down and clean up takes place. Most years this part of the operation is complete by about 4:00 PM and volunteers have all gone home. The forklift and equipment trailer are pulling out... and another job well done.

Without this fine scouting effort we could not continue to provide a quality program to our youth, Thanks so very much to all the hard working Leaders, Youth and Family Volunteers.

Christmas Tree Sales

Each year our sponsor, Holy Cross Anglican Church, graciously donates the use of the church parking lot for the setup and sale of Christmas Trees. This is one of the 31st scout groups largest and most important fundraising events. Each family is asked to donate a 3.5 hour shift to sell Christmas trees. This event is a large repeat customer service and provides families an enjoyable, fun, rewarding family outing sales event.

Bottle Drives

Usually one bottle drive held in the autumn and one held in the spring. Things are kick started with a Stampede style breakfast. Maps are distributed for the imeediate community area. Families using their Youth and vehicles complete collecting on the morning of the event. The afternoon sorting and bottle collection truck loading finishes off the event by mid afternoon. Our youngest members the Beavers are asked to not participate in the afternoon sorting. For the past several years the Venturer Company have provided outstanding service to this important event.

Scout Popcorn Sales

This event is a fundraiser for the youth as well as the Scout Group. Sixty percent of revenues from this event return to scouting. Through a Scout Bucks rebate program scout youth are able to earn money. They may spend "Scout Bucks" on scout shop equipment and towards their individual yearly membership fee. The youth also may earn sales prizes and educational scollorships. The 31St scout group also enjoys a healthy return on popcorn sales. Thus this fundraiser is a popular event for everyone.

Holiday Cheese Sales

As required the sale of Christmas holiday cheese is organized. Normally revenues from this event is used to finance the cleaning of the Scout Hall.
