The 31St Scout Group uses the Internet to provide our members with information about Scout Sections, Alumni and Group Committee Events. All members or past members of the 31st are welcome to subscribe to any of these services.

Yahoo provides many different types of services. The service the 31st Scouts are making most use of is Yahoo "Groups". This service provides the 31St Scout group with a complete communications solution to our families.

The Yahoo "Groups" Internet services are provided free of charge. The "Groups" service as as well as many other Yahoo Internet services are paid for by including advertising on their web pages that Yahoo members use.

Yahoo provides privacy to all who use their services. This is accomplished through the use of member "ID" names and passwords. The members use their "ID" and personal password to identify themselves when they use any of Yahoo's many services.

Prior to subscribing to any of the 31St Yahoo "Group" sites one should obtain a Yahoo "ID" and password. Full access to all the features included in many of the 31St yahhoo "Group" sites is only possible when you have a valid Yahoo "ID" and are logged on to Yahoo using your personal password.

To obtain a valid yahoo "ID" and password please read the instructions given at the bottom of this note.

To join any of the 31st Yahoo Email Group sites, follow closely the information provided below.

Once you are located at the public access main page of a particular site:

Select the heading located in the upper right hand corner

"Join this group".

Soon you will receive a personal email confirming you're pending subscription.

Due to the sensitive nature of the youth involved some 31St Yahoo "Group" sites may require you to reply back to the group owner, to verify that you are indeed a valid 31St member participant. Once the "Group" owner is confident that you are not a threat to our youth your subscription application will be approved. The Group sites we are most concerned with are the Beaver and Cub Yahoo "Group" sites.

When using any of these 31st Scout Group services please use parental guidance for youth aged 5 to 14. The 31st Scout Group uses These Yahoo Email Group sites primarily to provide parental information and post events, photos, and forms.

Yours in Scouting,

Sunshine ( Garwin Hancock )

Additional Information:

Note: In order to obtain full access to any Yahoo email group site you should have a valid Yahoo "ID" and password.

To obtain a Yahoo "ID" follow the directions given below.

1) browse to " www.groups.yahoo.com "

2) find in the upper left hand corner of the Yahoo Groups WEB page the words:

3) With the mouse select the words: "New Users"

4) A web page appears with a form used to obtain a Yahoo "ID" and password.

After you have filled in this form you will become a yahoo member. Be sure to make note of your I.D. and Password. A good idea is to write this information down on paper and store it in a safe place.

Once you have a Yahoo I.D. and password you have access to all of the many FREE Yahoo services.

A most useful service is Yahoo mail. Using a WEB email address allows members to access email from any computer. Often Yahoo Groups members direct all group email posts to the WEB based email address to limit the email traffic to their internet service provider (isp) account such as shaw.ca or telusplanet.net .
