Annual Scout Group Social Events:

Baden Powell Dinner - Each year during Scout Week the 31St Scout Group holds a sit down dinner in honor of Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the World Scout and Girl Guide Movements ( Born February 22, 1857 - Died January 8, 1941 ). The group takes this opportunity to present awards to individuals for their special contributions to the 31St Scout Group. Many Leaders, Parents and Youth volunteer time and effort to help make this event a success. Volunteer activities include program preparations; cooking; seat and table setup; table serving; and dish clean-up.

Scout Church Parade - Each year during Scout week members of 31st Scout Group participate in a Scouting celebration with God. A special church service during Scout Week; this is a formal uniformed service which takes place each year. Our sponsor the Holy Cross Anglican Church graciously provides a special service in Scouting Honor. Special thanks to our sponsor, the 31st Scout Group is very fortunate to have such a heart felt supportive relationship with a wonderful sponsor.

Moving Up Ceremony - Each year, in autumn as regular scout meetings reconvene and new youth join our activities, the entire group will get together. The main activity on this occasion is to celebrate the moving up and joining of some youth to new sections. That is from Beavers to Cubs, Cubs to Scouts, Scouts to Venturers, Venturers to Rovers. Also new members joining our group are welcomed into the section in this special ceremony.
All families are welcome to attend. The event usually includes an outdoor feast with an opportunity to visit and get to know one another. As with all events many courageous volunteers provide valuable assistance inorder to make a complete success of the outing.

Leader Christmas Party - This party is somewhat of a tradition at the 31St Scout Group. The party originated through the efforts of  Scouter Val Jones (a former Cub Section Leader) and her willing assistants. Each person attending brings along an exchange gift of moderate to high value. During the course of the evening we play a game of gift exchange with a built in procedure of crafty give and take. Older more knowledgeable leaders know full well the quality and thought given to each of the well-wrapped gifts. Often experience helps by paying a close observation of peoples reactions as you shake, rattle and choose a particular gift from under the tree. If you are careful a very lucky you just may go home with a great Christmas treasure. We all have such fun at this very valuable gift exchange party; Leaders/Volunteers and they're significant others keep returning year after year. This fun event makes participation in the 31st scout group a worthwhile pursuit on its own.
